5k Run Route 2018

This years 5km route covers the historic heart of Belfast’s Maritime and Engineering Heritage.

The run will start at 7pm on Wednesday 4th July in downtown Belfast at the ‘Big Fish -‘ public art installation.

The 5k Route will run anticlockwise over the river lagan and circumnavigate the birthplace of the world’s most famous ship, HMS Titanic, built and launched in Belfast in 1911 by local shipbuilders Harland and Wolff. Look out for th iconic yellow cranes ‘Samson and Goliath”.

The 5k Route begins at the ‘Big Fish’ and will pass through the ‘Titanic Quarter”.  The route will be lead out and followed by cycling marshals to make sure everyone gets back safe!

5k Route – St/Fin The Big Fish:

  1. The Lagan Weir – Completed in 1994 and constructed to keep the tidal River Lagan level and artificially constant.
  2. Foreshore Walk (Odyssey Arena).
  3. Belfast Marina.
  4. SS Nomadic (Passenger tender to HMS Titanic).
  5. Titanic Building and Museum (Go Right at large iron Titanic Sign then left onto Queens Road).
  6. Titanic Drawing Offices – Design rooms for the Titanic and her sister ships (Queens Rd).
  7. Titanic Studios – A former Harland & Wolff  workshop now a busy movie/tv studio – Currently a set location for the Game of Thrones” TV series.
  8. HMS Caroline and Heritage Trail – Caroline was launched and commissioned in 1914 and is the sole survivor of the WW1  Battle of Jutland still afloat. (Run to bow bridge crossing).
  9. Titanic Walk Way –  A new Lagan riverfront trail and pedestrian path accessing the waterfront.
  10. The Great Light – The world’s first and largest hyper-radial Fresnel lighthouse lens built in the 1880’s and served the Mew Island lighthouse until 2014.
  11. Titanic Slipway – The launch site of HMS Titanic in 1911. (keep to the right here and run around the Titanic Building on the river side to the front of the Titanic Building and the ‘Titanic Sign’).
  12. Titanic Building (Front of building To Titanic Sign).
  13. SS Nomadic.
  14. Belfast Marina.
  15. Foreshore Walk (Odyssey Arena).
